About the Plant: The citronella plant belongs to the same family as lemongrass and palmarosa grasses, and grows in clumps in Asia. Citronella essential oil was traditionally used to prevent food spoilage.

Mental/ Emotional: Citronella essential oil helps to release the energy of punishment and distrust that creates anger, frustration and separation from self and source. It helps to calm the emotional and mental bodies so that one can resolve the inner reasons for the conflict. It can give you courage, self respect, ambition, self esteem and self discipline. This oil instils trust and connection to source which helps us embrace and accept ourselves. It asks us to evaluate the things that ‘bug us’ or irritate us on a deeper level. Once we do, we may find those pesky annoyances are exactly the things we need to be more accepting of in others so we can accept ourselves. Massaging ourselves with it releases the energy of distrust, aggravation, loneliness and disharmony. Calms quick anger.

Physical: Citronella can help treat and prevent colds, fevers, and headaches. Citronella can be used as a natural pain-relieving treatment to decrease inflammation and pain. Combine several (two to three) drops with a carrier oil like coconut oil and massage it into swollen joints, tissue and muscles. Citronella oil seems to activate both para- sympathetic and sympathetic nervous activity. It kills Candida fungus which contributes to many skin concerns such as nail infections. Citronella oil can help dogs to stop barking. This is why they make anti-barking collars that contain citronella. You can also use citronella to keep your dogs off of furniture. As a bonus, when you spray citronella on your furniture or linens, it keeps them free from bacteria, pests and odours. Cats are known to be more sensitive to citronella than dogs, and it is considered to be a cat repellent. Citronella is great for insect bites and stings. It is an excellent air purifier and disinfectant that aids in warding off insects and treating stings and bites of venomous insects. Also great for toothaches, redness, irritation and inflammation of the skin, infectious diseases, digestive problems, headache, rheumatism, fatigue, as an after childbirth wash and as a detoxifier. These toxic substances are called Ama in Ayurveda and are the major reason behind numerous health conditions like arthritis, rheumatic pain, sluggishness, nervous exhaustion, fatigue, urinary infections and even severe heart problems.

Spiritual: Citronella may be used to protect, cleanse, clear negative energies, and strengthen and purify one's life force. It is very beneficial in clearing the mind and encouraging expression, making it a marvellous tool for writers, performers and musicians. Citronella oil may also be used to stimulate the throat chakra and clarify communication. Purifies the Ida and Pingla.

INSTRUCTIONS : Always use essential oils with carrier oils when applying on the body. Mix in 2-3 drops of essential oil with 15 drops of carrier oil. Keep away from direct sunlight. Store in a cool, dark place.

PURE ESSENTAL OILS CAN CAUSE REDNESS, BURNING, IRRITATION TO SENSITIVE SKINS. PLEASE PATCH TEST ON ELBOW, WAIT FOR 30 MINUTES, THEN APPLY. IF IT CAUSES REDNESS, WASH WITH SOAP AND WATER IMMEDIATELY AND DILUTE THE OIL FURTHER IN APRICOT/ALMOND CARRIER OIL.
